Our father and father-in-law, whose heart beat in rhythm with the land, was not just a man of the bush—he was the heartbeat of Hwange.

His life was one of purpose, shaped by years of dedication to wildlife, conservation, and family. He walked a path few are privileged to tread, working the rugged terrain of the Lowveld as a rancher and wildlife manager, before dedicating the last ten years of his life to the crucial cause of water supply in Hwange National Park. His work, born from a deep love for the wild places and creatures he spent his life protecting, created an indelible mark not only on the land but also on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to learn from him.

The stories he left behind in his memoirs, Mr B - The Heartbeat of Hwange, are more than words on a page—they are living, breathing testaments to a man who believed that true adventure wasn’t about seeking thrills, but about finding a connection with the earth beneath your feet, the animals that roam it, and the people who share in its wonder.

One of his most cherished possessions—a weathered hat, worn with time and lined with feathers from the animals he encountered over the years—now sits proudly on our website, a symbol of his journey. That hat, stained with the sweat of hard work and filled with the essence of untold experiences, reminds us daily that life is meant to be lived fully, passionately, and with a deep respect for the wild world around us.
